The escalating conflict in Sudan has led to the displacement of nearly 200,000 individuals in just a week, states a report by the United Nations, citing the latest figures released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The turmoil that started on 15th April has culminated in more than 2.6 million people becoming internally displaced. As the crisis deepens, over 730,000 have sought refuge in neighboring countries, reports the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.

The UN's top brass, including Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and the World Food Programme (WFP) Chief Cindy McCain, paid a visit to an eastern Chad refugee camp accommodating Sudanese escapees on Tuesday.

Ms. Mohammed lauded the bravery of the refugees, a majority of whom are women and children. UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in New York relayed her experiences, stating, "She also heard tales of unimaginable suffering in Sudan and the enormous needs in Chad". He highlighted her call for international support to bolster the resources for refugees and their host communities.

Meanwhile, humanitarian efforts persist in strife-ridden Sudan. UNICEF and its associates continue to supply water to displaced people's gathering sites and healthcare facilities in North Darfur. The construction of over two dozen latrines has also been facilitated.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is closely collaborating with Sudan’s Ministry of Health to provide crucial care, including reproductive, sexual, maternal, and pediatric services, to the internally displaced populace.

Additionally, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and its partners have managed to deliver life-saving supplies, such as 3,000 reproductive health kits, to six hospitals in Khartoum state, demonstrating their commitment to meeting the urgent health and protection needs of all Sudanese women and girls.
