| Central African Republic: Overview of incidents affecting humanitarian workers (1 January to 31 December 2022)
CONTEXT
The civilian population continues to be affected by tensions and armed violence in the Central African Republic. From January to December 2022, humanitarian personnel and assets were affected by 179 incidents. The number of incidents recorded in December corresponded to the average trend observed since the beginning of the year.
Among the 14 incidents of the month of December, five cases of theft were recorded, including a robbery of a humanitarian team during which six staff members were physically assaulted, a temporary confinement of two humanitarians, three cases of interference and five movement restrictions.
The Prefectures of Ouham (25 per cent), Bangui (21 per cent) and Ouaka (9 per cent) were the most affected. With 179 incidents, one aid worker killed and 24 injured, 2022 presented a significant improvement compared to 2021, when 396 incidents were recorded, with three aid workers killed and 28 injured.
