Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 10/05/2022
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions, floods and droughts. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

DAILY FLASH
Uganda - Floods and landslides (ECHO FLASH 6 May 12:27:05 PM)
- Heavy rainfall has been affecting Uganda (in particular Eastern, and Western Regions) since late April, causing floods and triggering landslides and mudslides that have resulted in population displacements and damage.
- Media report, as of 6 May, more than 3,200 displaced people, 650 destroyed houses and a total of nearly 7,000 affected people across the Eastern Region, where the most affected area by floods is the Bulambuli District with nearly 4,500 affected people.
- In addition, media also report more than 50 displaced, over 500 affected people and eight destroyed houses across the Western Region, particularly due to landslides and mudslides. No fatalities were reported by the Red Cross.
- Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is forecast over most of the Country, including over the already affected Eastern, and Western Regions
Democratic Republic of the Congo - Severe weather (ECHO FLASH 6 May 12:27:05 PM)
- Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (in particular the North Kivu Province) over the past 48 hours, causing floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in damage.
- Media report, as of 6 May, more than 40 destroyed houses, over ten destroyed schools, some damaged religious buildings and a number of affected families across the Lubero Territory (northern North Kivu Province).
- Over the next 48 hours, light rainfall is forecast over the North Kivu Province.
Philippines - Flash floods (ECHO FLASH 6 May 12:27:05 PM)
- On 2-4 May, moderate to heavy rainfall caused flash floods in parts of Mindanao (southern Philippines).
- According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-DROMIC), 1,805 individuals have been displaced, and up to 3,145 people have been affected in the Regions of Caraga (north-eastern Mindanao) and Soccsksargen (southern Mindanao).
- Light rainfall is forecast on 6-7 May over most of Mindanao.
Afghanistan - Floods update (ECHO FLASH 6 May 12:27:05 PM)
- The number of casualties has increased in Afghanistan, after floods caused by heavy rainfall have affected 12 Provinces of the Country, since the beginning of the month.
- According to media reports, 22 people have died and 40 others were injured. About 500 houses were destroyed and 2,000 damaged. Flooding was particularly severe in the western provinces of Badghis and Faryab and the northern province of Baghlan.
- On 6-7 May, light to locally moderate rainfall is forecast over areas in north-eastern Afghanistan.
