How Extreme Violence Affects People's Lives in Central African Republic
Source: Doctors Without Borders
It’s been 10 years since the start of the third civil war in the Central African Republic (CAR). This video is an introduction to “The Events” at https://car10yearsofviolence.com, a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) multimedia project featuring 15 first-hand audio stories collected in CAR and striking photographs of the storytellers and their lives by photographer Adrienne Surprenant. Joseph's son was murdered on Christmas Eve, Tatiana had to flee her home when she was at full term in her pregnancy. Louise underwent an amputation following a gunshot wound. And Louison was traumatized by the death of a man he tried in vain to save. MSF has worked in CAR since 1997 and been a witness to the devastation the fighting has wrought. Today, there are more than 3,000 MSF staff, most of them Central Africans, providing pediatric care, trauma surgery, and HIV/AIDS care in different parts of the country.
